A Creative Quilting Workshop Getaway
Imagine five days wrapped in lake light, stitched with laughter, and fueled by fearless creativity.
Join internationally celebrated quilt artist Ricky Tims for an immersive quilting retreat in the heart of the Ozarks. Set along the sparkling shores of Table Rock Lake, this experience blends bold technique, artistic courage, and joyful exploration — all wrapped in the warmth of creative community.
Lodging is at the beautiful Port of Kimberling Marina & Resort, where mornings shimmer with lake views and evenings wind down with sunset reflections across the water.
Daily workshop sessions are held less than half a mile away at the welcoming Kimberling Area Library. The spacious community room provides generous breathing room for each participant — light-filled, comfortable, and perfectly suited for five focused days of inspired quiltmaking.
MEALS
Homemade breakfast is included each morning. All other meals are on your own unless otherwise stated.
The Experience
Monday, September 20 – Arrival & Welcome
We begin with setup and a relaxed Monday evening meet-n-greet. Connect, settle into your creative environment, and build momentum for the week ahead.
Tuesday – Saturday – September 21-25
Immersive Workshop Days
Primary workshop hours with Ricky, 9-5 with w/lunch breaks.
The Friday Dinner will be prepared especially for you by Hugo Dos Santos.

• Independent Study
If you have an idea for a quilt that does not fit within the confines of LocoMotion or Improv, Ricky will guide you toward design and methods/techniques that would be best for your vision. In many cases, these will fit into LocoMotion or Improv, but there are some situations where stepping sideways into another creative technique works best. This workshop is about being original. Please do not bring patterns or other projects that are not originally yours.
• LocoMotion Quilting

Learn Ricky’s innovative curved-piecing technique for creating precision designs with the illusion of motion and depth — without templates or stress. LocoMotion is liberating, visually striking, and delightfully addictive. This is the method behind his award-winning quilt The Visitation.
• Improv Quilting
Break the grid. Trust your instincts. Discover your voice.
Improv quilting invites play, spontaneity, and fearless design choices. Explore composition, color relationships, and creative risk-taking in a supportive environment that encourages growth and joyful experimentation.

Saturday Evening – A Grand Finale Spectacular!
We conclude our creative adventure at Dolly Parton’s Stampede—a spectacular grand finale filled with incredible horsemanship, music, dazzling entertainment, and a hearty four-course feast. It’s pure Branson fun and the perfect way to celebrate an unforgettable week together!.

Essentially, you will bring machines, fabrics, and supplies. We provide cutting mats. There are four rental workshop machines are available for $100 for the week. You will be designing your own quilt, so planning a set of fabric is impossible. Bring more than you think you will want. There are local quilt shops should you find you need additional fabric.

The $225 guest fee is paid separately and arranged directly through Ricky upon arrival. The guest fee is not paid online.
If a spouse or friend is traveling with you but will not participate in workshop meals, showboat, or other activities, a guest fee is not required.

The pace slows here. The air feels different. Ideas seem to stretch a little farther.
Just minutes away, Branson offers live entertainment, music venues, theaters, charming shops, and endless dining options. Explore nearby nature parks and scenic overlooks, take a lake cruise, hike wooded trails, or simply enjoy coffee by the marina while watching the water wake up.

If you are flying to join us, the most convenient airport is Springfield-Branson National Airport, located just about an hour from Kimberling City. It offers a comfortable and scenic drive into the Ozarks and is the most practical choice for reaching the retreat with ease.
Another option is Northwest Arkansas National Airport, serving the Bentonville and Fayetteville area. While it offers additional flight routes, it is approximately two hours away by car. Either choice brings you into beautiful countryside, where rolling hills and winding roads gently usher you toward Table Rock Lake.
A rental car is recommended so you can move comfortably between the airport, your lodging, and perhaps explore a bit of the Ozarks during your stay.
